Wellness Tidbits

"At times our own light goes out and is rekindled by a spark from another person.  Each of us has cause to think with deep gratitude of those who have lighted the flame within us."  Albert Schweitzer

The Spirit Dimension and Education
The spirit dimension recognizes our search for meaning and purpose in human existence. It is the heart-centered part of ourselves where we go to find connection and strength in times of stress or crisis, and where we experience gratitude, kindness and compassion, both inwardly and outwardly. Nurturing the human spirit helps us navigate the challenging twists and turns of life's path. Relying on a solid value system and finding an internal source of strength helps us follow a course that keeps us true to ourselves. Spirit connects us to an inner source of joy and discovery and steadies us as we encounter doubt, fear, disappointment and sorrow. That inner compass also can help us appreciate the vast universe around us and accept the beliefs of others that are different from our own.

We are dedicated to helping public school educators open a discussion with students about how nurturing the spirit contributes to wellness through increased self-esteem and decreased stress. We provide teachers and organizations with the resources to bring this discussion into the classroom and transform it into practice, helping students deepen their awareness of themselves and others as they search for their true place in the world. We also encourage participants to share ideas and resources they already have. Conversations about specific religious beliefs, preferences, or practices are left to individuals and their families.

Spotlight: Wellness

It is difficult to reconcile the work of leaders as strictly management when so much of it deals with the aspirations and dreams of people, when so much of it affirms or denies their very essence.  When you mess with folks’ lives, you’d best be aware of the spiritual nature of what you are doing because at the core of our humanity is that golden cord of connection to the infinite.   -Paul D. Houston
